Halleluijah est la chanson qui a fait le succès de Jeff Buckley, en grande partie après sa mort en 1997.

Jeff Buckley est mort à 30 ans, noyé dans les eux d'un fleuve du Mississipi où il se baignait tout habillé (ce qui a conduit à pas mal de rumeurs sur un possible homicide/suicide). Il était sur le point d'enregistrer son second album.

malgré le succès de cette version, Jeff Buckley dira: "Ma version est trop rapide. [...] Je devais choisir entre celle-ci et une autre que je détestais vraiment. En tout, il doit bien exister vingt-deux versions qui traînent quelque part".
