I didn't fall asleep because I was too scared. This wasn't what I expected at all, and I guess that's good. His previous films bored me to hell, but not this one. Visually stunning (really) and seriously disturbing. The story and its plot made me wonder, though, why he made this film, which from any points of view I could imagine, is anti feminist and based on the very old religious theme that women are, in the same way as the nature is, in general, evil. My simple interepretation is that this is a revenge film, probably coming from some bad experience of his own with some particular woman, but, isn't it irrational to generalize that to some universal statement? Anyway, I'd give 9/10 for all the beautiful and courageous imagery, wonderful actings by two leads, especially that of Charlotte Gainsbourg.
